Costa Rica offers students of Geography, Geology and Science a plethora of breath-taking national parks, captivating rainforest and relaxing beaches. The tour combines explorations in Braulio Carrillo Cloud Forest National Park, the Arenal Volcano National Park, the hanging bridges at Mistico Park along with workshops and fieldwork on sustainability and conservation. Your group will stay overnight at the research stations at La Selva and Palo Verde offering a unique opportunity to study more than 11 distinct habitats within a relatively small area as well as how these habitats are affected by the human-dominated landscape surrounding the parks.

Sample itinerary

  • Day 1

    Flight to San Jose, meet coach and transfer to the hotel to check in. Evening meal at hotel.

  • Day 2

    After breakfast transfer by private coach across the Braulio Carrillo Cloud Forest National Park to arrive at La Selva Biological Station in Sarapiqui, a centre for field biology, ecology, and global health in a diversity of community settings and ecosystems. Afternoon workshop on choice of subject.

    Evening meal followed by guided night-time bat tour of La Tirimbina reserve.

  • Day 3

    After breakfast, full-day at station dedicated to workshops and fieldwork on sustainability and conservation.

  • Day 4

    After breakfast, transfer by coach to La Fortuna. Visit the hanging bridges at Mistico Park - a guided walk into the dense rain forest from high suspension bridges and admire the forest canopy in the Arenal Volcano area

    Evening meal at hotel and talk on the sustainable eco-tourism industry.

  • Day 5

    After breakfast, transfer by coach to Palo Verde Research Station, located in one of Central America’s largest and most important wetlands. Afternoon workshop on choice of subject.

    After breakfast, full-day at station dedicated to workshops and fieldwork on sustainability and conservation.

    After breakfast, transfer by private coach to Juan Santamaría for return overnight flight to UK.
