Our Guided tour to the Somme blends History and Poetry in order for your students to gain a deeper understanding of the key war poets such as Wilfred Owen, Siegfried Sassoon and Noel Hodgson.

Poems will be read at each location providing an unforgettable insight into the impact of the Great War on these iconic writers.

Sample itinerary

  • Day 1

    Travel to the Somme. Visit the area where Wilfred Owen fought including Sheffield park and Serre 2 Cemetery. Evening meal and activities at hotel.

  • Day 2

    Breakfast at hotel. Board coach and visit Fricourt, Mametz and Devonshire Cemetery (Noel Hodgson’s grave). In the afternoon visit Cambrai and Ors visitor centre, memorial and grave of Wilfred Owen. Evening meal at hotel.

  • Day 3

    Breakfast at hotel. Board coach and visit Thiepval and Newfoundland Park. Return to school.

  • Located in Albert the museum is housed in a series of underground passages. The museum evokes the grim reality of trench warfare with a series of displays depicting trench life for both sides as well as the evolution of weaponry and uniforms.
